A WOMAN was treated in York Hospital for facial injuries after she was allegedly assaulted in the Groves area early on New Year’s Day.
Part of a road called Del Pyke was cordoned off by police for several hours yesterday while detectives investigated the incident.
North Yorkshire Police said they were called at about 4.10am to the area following reports a 26-year-old local woman had been assaulted.
A spokesman said: “She was taken to York Hospital for treatment to facial injuries, where she remains in a stable condition. Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact York CID.”
Stephanie Brodie, chairwoman of The Groves Residents Association, said she had been shocked when she went out in the morning to walk her dog and saw the street cordoned off.
She said: “My heart goes out to the injured woman.
“The police have been fantastic, both in relation to this incident and generally.”
• Police said an 18-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and remained in police custody for questioning yesterday evening.
