TEENAGER Henry Barnes has been selected to play for the National Independent Schools Barbarians rugby union team.
Barnes is an upper sixth-form student at St Peter’s School in York studying economics, biology and chemistry.
He was St Peter’s first-team player of the year in 2011, and player of the tour during a recent visit to Hong Kong, New Zealand and California. He was also honoured with full colours and a cap for his 2011 performances at school.
Harome-based Barnes, a flanker, who played club rugby for Malton & Norton and thereafter Otley, was the only player from St Peter’s selected for the Barbarians trial.
The team will play fixtures across the UK and in an international competition over Easter in Italy.
