AS part of the Queen’s Maundy visit, she will tour the Yorkshire Museum in Museum Gardens and see a special exhibition put together to mark the city’s 800th anniversary of being granted its Royal Charter.
Some of York’s most significant medieval objects will be brought together for the first time as part of the exhibition called 1212: Making of the City, which will explore the vibrancy and power of medieval York and its position as England’s second city.
The loan of objects, paintings and original manuscripts from York Minster, the Merchant Adventurers, the Mansion House, the City Archives and York Archaeological Trust will compliment some of the Yorkshire Museum’s star objects in its atmospheric Medieval Gallery.
Works of art depicting medieval York from York Art Gallery and specially commissioned films will also be displayed.
The exhibition will open on April 7 and forms part of York 800 – the city’s celebration of being granted its Royal Charter.
