PUPILS at Forest of Galtres Primary School have been studying the history of Maundy Money after one of their governors was chosen to meet the Queen.
Mollie Haigh, governor at the Shipton-by-Beningbrough school, will be attending tomorrow’s service to receive Maundy Money from the Queen after being nominated for her services to the church.
The Queen will distribute Maundy Money to 86 women and 86 men – one for each year of her life – as part of a long-standing Easter tradition this year being held at the Minster.
As part of their studies, pupils invited Miss Haigh to a special assembly at which children wearing silver crowns presented her with their own Maundy Money and a picture of the Queen.
Miss Haigh, a former English teacher at Easingwold School, said: “I’m excited about attending the service and I have shared it with the children at the school.
“I didn’t tell a lot of people when I found out but it was good for the children to investigate.”
