FUNDRAISING efforts in Poppleton in memory of a York Marine who died in Afghanistan raised more than £500.
David Charles Hart was 23 when he was killed in Sangin in the southern part of Afghanistan in July 2010, and was York’s third victim of the conflict.
The charity quiz, raffle and auction held at the White Horse pub in Poppleton on Sunday, April 1, raised £350 for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Raffle and auction prizes were donated by Skelton Golf Club, Wishing Well Health and Well Being products, Brunch, the White Horse public house in Poppleton and MCN Carpet Cleaning.
A further £215 was raised by the customers of the White Horse who bought special wristbands for the trust fund, which aims to raise £6 million by the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines in 2014.
The money will go to help support wounded marines, and the families of those who have died on active service.
