A NORTH Yorkshire village is going all out to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a three-day carnival.
“Royal Riccall” promises to be a regal extravaganza and will include a fair with stalls and games, a barn dance, open air church service, picnic and hog roast.
Carnival-goers are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and local residents to decorate their houses and gardens in bunting.
Karen Keen, carnival organiser, said: “Everybody is welcome. There will be a great family atmosphere and it will be a fun day for everyone.
“Riccall itself is a great community and we like to get involved in everything. Because it’s a Diamond Jubilee it’s a great celebration.
“We have done the carnival every year since it started for the Golden Jubilee.”
On Saturday, June 2, from 1pm to 5pm there will be entertainment in the Regen Centre with jujitsu and dancers, a bouncy castle, slide and bucking bronco. There will also be a penalty shootout by York City, a variety of stalls, refreshments and ice cream.
In the evening there will be a barn dance at the Regen Centre. Tickets cost £10 including supper, with funds raised going to the air ambulance.
On Sunday, there will be an open-air church service from 11.30am at the Millennium Green followed by a “right royal” picnic on the village green from 1pm, followed by entertainment and singing.
The Hare And Hounds will also have a hog roast and bouncy castle.
On Monday evening there will be the traditional lighting of the beacon at the recreation ground at 10.15pm, a time alotted by Buckingham Palace.
Tickets for the barn dance are available from the Regen, the Post Office or by phoning 07752583525.
