COUNTRY businessmen and landowners have urged organisers of Diamond Jubilee celebrations not to include Chinese lanterns in their events.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) warned the wire-framed lanterns containing a lighted candle pose a threat to livestock and standing crops when the paper cover burns out and the frames fell to earth.
They say the candle could start fires in standing crops, hay or straw barns or moorland.
