ROADS in York will be closed on Saturday as a Royal parade and salute is held to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The closure will cover Duncombe Place, Blake Street, Davygate, Parliament Street, High Ousegate, Spurriergate, Coney Street, St Helen’s Square, Lendal, Museum Street and riverside footpaths between 10.30am and 1pm.
Meanwhile, some North Yorkshire villages will be almost entirely traffic-free zones as they celebrate the Diamond Jubilee in style. North Yorkshire County Council has approved road closures for more than 50 street parties, some of which extend nearly the length and breadth of the smallest villages.
Coun Gareth Dadd, said: “Our highways teams have worked hard with party organisers to make sure that the road closure process has been understood by all. The result is that North Yorkshire has a tremendous range of parties planned – both in urban areas and in smaller rural communities.”
