A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital with multiple injuries after a crash on the A64 between York and Tadcaster today.
The accident happened at about 8.50am on the westbound carriageway, near Slice Lane just east of Tadcaster, when the car came off the road and landed in a ditch.
The woman was cut out of the damaged car by firefighters before being taken to Leeds General Infirmary by Yorkshire Air Ambulance just before 9.30am.
The extent of her injuries is not yet known, but North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it took some time to free her from the car as she was "severely" trapped. Crews from Tadcaster, Acomb and York being called to the scene.
One of the lanes on the westbound carriageway was closed as debris was left across the road, leading to queues of Bank Holiday traffic as far back as Copmanthorpe. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved and there was nobody else in the car.
