AFTER the deluge came the sun and the people of the York area came out in crowds to continue the Jubilee fun with a parade in Skelton, a big joint town celebration for Malton and Norton and town celebrations at Pocklington among other celebrations.
Among yesterday’s street parties was one at Heworth Hall Drive, York, which was moved at very short notice from Sunday after residents saw Sunday’s weather forecast.
Beacon sites including Bachelor Hill, Acomb, Askham Bryan College, Poppleton and Acaster Malbis saw final preparations and anxious checks that the weekend rain would not stop their community joining in the beacon chain throughout the Commonwealth that was started at 10am BST - 10pm local time - in Tonga.
