A SECOND attempt is being made to build five homes in the garden of a York bungalow.
Proposals for the site in Whitby Drive, Heworth Without, were turned down by City of York Council last year after residents and local councillor, Nigel Ayre, claimed it was “garden-grabbing” and could harm local wildlife.
Fresh proposals have now been drawn up and will go before the council’s east area planning sub-committee this week.
Planning officers have recommended the proposals, which also include garages, be approved.
Council planning officer Erik Matthews said the new homes would not cause “undue harm” to the area, but 44 objection letters have been submitted and Coun Ayre and York Outer MP Julian Sturdy have both said the plans should be rejected.
