WELL done Tony Kelly in his column (The Press, June 2) regarding the fuss over the Queen having been in her unelected, exalted position for 60 years.
Like Tony, I find it ridiculous to call it a job. The Queen has never done a proper day’s work in her luxurious life.
The extra day’s bank holiday made it even worse for me. I wonder if the crafty Duke of Edinburgh “worked a flanker” to get himself into hospital for a few days until the fuss has died down?
Of course, when the ageing Queen breathes her last, I suppose we’ll have Prince Charles appointed king.
I dread to think the degree of coverage every form of the media will give to that – whether we like it or not. Then, we will have a real Charlie on the throne.
Of course, monarchists have had a whale of a time this year. It always amazes me when those trying to justify royalty have the gall to claim Britain has a democracy. An hereditary monarchy is the complete opposite of true democracy.
