PENALTY prowess paid off for Heworth under-10s as they triumphed in the U11s competition at their own junior football gala.
The U10s finished runners-up in the group stages after beating Heworth U11s, losing to York Cubs and beating Tockwith.
Having beaten York RI on penalties after a 0-0 draw, the U10s drew 1-1 with York Cubs and came through a shoot-out to clinch a final spot.
Spot-kicks were also needed to settle the final against Heworth U11s, with the younger side prevailing to allow skipper Lucas Wilson the chance of lifting the trophy.
Meanwhile, Heworth U13s team took part in the Otley Town six-a-side tournament in atrocious conditions.
Competing were teams from Wakefield, Bradford, York and Leeds. Heworth lost 1-0 to Shadwell (Leeds) in the final.
