Dunnington, Heworth, York and Woodhouse Grange have all got into winning ways after a deluge-drenched start to the York and District Junior Cricket Association campaign.

After struggling in the first week to raise a team, Dunnington have come good with three Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Under-15 League zone ‘A’ wins.

They toppled Yapham by six wickets, downed Dringhouses with Tom Loten 52 not out, George Wilson 53 not out and Jack Spofforth taking 3-10, and beat Bolton Percy with fine bowling hauls from Jack Spofforth (4-2) and Josh Salter (3-5).

Heworth are unbeaten and going well in both league and cup.

Captain Tom Neal hit 40 against Woodhouse Grange and 51 not out against Bishopthorpe as well as pouching catches.

Will Huffer hit 32 not out against Woodhouse and R Cowley took 3-12 against Bishoprhorpe.

York’s Tom Spearman bagged 4-3 against Bolton Percy and batsmen Cameron Lynde (45), Hugo Adams (37) and Cameron Bloor (35 not out) excelled against Dringhouses.

Woodhouse Grange suffered a loss against Heworth but overcame Bolton Percy, with G Allport taking 3-3 and Sam Shipley 3-7, before ousing Yapham thanks to contributions from Sam Shipley (38), Luke Wilson (4-1) and Ross Richardson (3-15). Yapham’s David Bird took 3-27.

Other notable performances came from Bishopthorpe’s Tom Anderson (7-2) and Douglas Corbin (3-2) in their demolition of Dringhouses and Acomb’s Oliver Fryer (4-6) and C Burton (3-3) in their win over Bishopthorpe.

Selby, Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Pocklington are the pace-setters in zone ‘B’.

Selby beat Ovington by 16 runs led by Harry Cruise’s 4-8 and Isaac Leung’s 30 not out. For Ovington, Brad Wood made 30 and Joe Palmer 29.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge overcame York ‘B’ thanks to Alex Robinson (24) and Joe Simpson (3-9).

Against Osbaldwick, Oliver Leedham made 50 not out and Alex Robinson 52 not out as they finished on 126- 2. In reply Osbaldwick closed on 67-6.

Leedham made 38, Matty Day 32 and Ed Cotter 25 not out as they posted 137-3 against Ovington who collapsed to the bowling of Dan Cass (3-1) and Jake Stephenson (3-0).

Pocklington’s Joe Aconley (31) and J Craven (3-11) led the way in their win over Ovington.

And there was even better as Pocklington’s 208-2 at the expense of Clifton Alliance is one of highest scores ever at this level.

Although helped by the number of extras, Lewis Wilson (54 not out) James Baker (51 not out) and Aconley (30) took the game well beyond their opponents’ reach.

Alliance made a good fist of it, getting to 117, again helped by extras and Josh Bean making 25 but wickets fell regularly with Craven (3- 7) and Jamie Harvey (2-6) the main scourges.

Londesborough Park have suffered more than most from cancelled and conceded games but when their season got going they were beaten by ten wickets by Malton and Old Malton with Mathew Butler posting 34 not out. Earlier J Atkinson made 26 not out in Park’s 70-4.

Heworth got of to a flier in the first round of the President’s Cup. They restricted Ovington to 79-9 of which Tom Armes hit 22 and Joe Palmer 17, thanks to Matty Fairburn (3-4), Darren Harris (3-11) and Harry Moorcroft (2-24).

Neal hit 51 not out in just 26 balls with five sixes and three fours.

Osbaldwick took first knock at Malton and Old Malton in the second round and were restricted to 66-5 in their 20 overs.

Skipper Jonny Rawsthorne made 20 and Mathew Butler took 1-8. Butler 23 (not out) and Shaun Harland (36 not out) proceeded to race to 67- 0 despite Rawsthorne bowling his four overs for just ten runs.

Bishopthorpe were next to feel the heat of the Heworth batsmen as they racked up 145. Neal’s 29 from 21 balls featured three sixes, and he and Adam Livingston (27) put on 43 in an opening stand.

They were followed by Fairburn (41 not out off 30 balls) and Harris (36 not out 34 balls) for an unbroken 70-run partnership.

James Mackie (26), Henry Swires (22), Will Rose (14 not out) and Tom Anderson (11) headed Bishopthorpe’s reply of 98-7.

Holders York had an easy passage into the next round at the expense of Dringhouses. Hugo Adams made 46 and Andrew Brewster 53 not out.

Dringhouses’ L Rennison had passable figures of 3-31.

O Raper sank the Bolton Percy challenge in double quick time with figures of 4- 5 as Londesborough Park raced to a ten-wicket win.

Dunnington pair George Wilson (49 not out) and Tom Loten (42 not out) took the game away from Pocklington as they saw their team to 104-1. Earlier Pocklington made 103 all out through Wilson (27) and Aconley (25). Wilson took 3- 9 and Haden Bradley 3-20.

Clifton Alliance’s win against Yapham was a closer affair.

Yapham finished on 70-7, then excellent bowling from Will Cardy (3-18) and W Fox (3-8) put a dent in the Clifton reply. But 29 from Tom Himsworth was enough to see them home.

Elliot Precious made 43 not out in Selby’s 97-3, which proved too much for Woodhouse Grange, who could only get to 65-6 in reply thanks to Alex Bowden with 3-11.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge made 125-4 with Leedham scoring 50 not out and Day 33.

In reply, Acomb reached 107-7 with A Taylor making 30, but Alex Robinson’s 4-5 applied the brakes.

In the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13 League zone ‘A’, Heworth posted 127-4 with Will Huffer 31 not out and Ryan Whiteley 32 not out.

Tadcaster Magnets’ reply struggled to 41-6 before the overs ran out with Jack Burton on 15 not out and Sam Ward 11.

Ojas Pandey took two wickets in two balls and only missed out on a hattrick because of a dropped catch.

After a complete wash-out of the first week of the season, one of the few zone ‘B’ games to go ahead saw York gain a five-wicket win over Ovington.

Batting first, Ovington closed at 48 all out with J Souch making 12 and Sam Elliott taking 2-3, Cameron Burns 2-2 and Ted Patmore 2-6. In York’s reply Will Ford hit 21.

Malton and Old Malton posted a seven-wicket Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 (HB) Cup win over Clifton Alliance.

Batting first, Clifton posted 61-6 with Jack Mayfield hitting 20 and Will Schofield taking 1-2 and Laurie Jackson 2-1.

Schofield’s 19 and Luke Scott’s unbeaten 21 saw Malton home despite Jack Boyes’ 1-5, Dan Stevenson’s 1-4 and Isaac Kennedy’s 1-4.
