OLDER people and their families are being invited to a one-stop event for advice on how to prevent falls.
The falls prevention team from York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is holding the event between 10am and noon tomorrow at Clement’s Hall in Nunthorpe Road, York, as part of National Falls Awareness week.
Adele Harvey, falls prevention co-ordinator for the trust, said: “We want to give older people the opportunity to come and get first- hand advice on the best way to stay safe, as many falls take place in people’s homes. “Advice will be offered on all kinds of health matters as well as information sheets of exercises to help with stability, and who to contact in case of emergency.
“Falls represent a serious problem for older people.
“Even a minor fall can result in serious consequences, both physically and psychologically.”
Refreshments will also be available and seasonal clothing will be on sale.
