THESE live recordings from the late-1970s capture the sublime folk interpreter Nic Jones in his pomp before a car crash cruelly curtailed his musical career in February, 1982.
His sympathetic arrangements of traditional ballads still influence the folk luminaries of today, more than three decades later, as does his distinctive guitar technique, which combined a deft finger-picking style alongside a hypnotic percussive beat.
Jones enriched his repertoire by scouring old ballad books and broadsides. He unearthed some true gems, including the drowned lovers' lament, Clyde Water, and the fortunate convict's ballad, The Isle Of France.
This CD complements two similar releases by Jones's own record label Mollie Music - In Search Of Nic Jones and Nic Jones Unearthed - which is based at his home in York.
