A DAY at York Races or cheering on runners at a fun run could help people affected by cancer and their families.
Macmillan Cancer Support is looking for recruits to the many volunteers who collect money, give talks, act as marshals, man stands at events and join in other activities on its behalf.
Its next big event is attending York Races on Saturday. On August 5 the charity will provide marshals and volunteers will cheer on runners for the York 10k race. The charity will also be represented at Thirsk Races on August 3.
Sally Millington and Roohi Lupton, joint York-based fundraising managers, said: “We’re always looking for new people to join us and we have a huge variety of tasks people can get involved in. You don’t need experience, just lots of enthusiasm and a desire to help.
“You’ll meet lots of new people, learn new skills and find out all about how Macmillan works. And most importantly you’ll know that everything you do is helping Macmillan support people affected by cancer.
Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face, and most of us know someone who has received a cancer diagnosis.
Even if you can donate just one hour, we really do appreciate that time that you can offer and it will make a difference.”
The charity is planning street collections for June 20 in Kirkbymoorside, July 26 in Thornton-le-Dale, August 24 in Helmsley and September 22 in Malton.
It will also be at Tesco’s Clifton Moor store on June 29 and June 30 and from November 12 to 15 at Morrisons’ in Malton.
