SINCE the introduction of the new traffic lights at the junction of Holgate Road and Blossom Street, I wonder if a census has been carried out on the traffic flow by our “traffic experts”.
When the lights were introduced a lot of complaints were registered and we were assured by the council that the traffic flow would not be affected.
I use this junction a lot and I have done my own census: no more than six vehicles a time mange to get through, whereas twice that number seem to flow from other directions.
With the first set of lights being 50 yards further back than before, and the introduction of the yellow box at the end of Lowther Terrace, it would seem obvious that fewer vehicles are getting through, leading to longer tailbacks in Holgate Road.
It would seem this council is not interested in keeping traffic flowing – only in slowing it down so much that motorists will eventually leave the city centre and do all their shopping at Monks Cross and Clifton Moor.
At the end of the day York will be a centre for tourists only and the council will be happy.
