CITY of York Council recently told me that because my house in York is classed as my main residence, my girlfriend and I are not entitled to a single person’s council-tax reduction, even though I spend 90 per cent of my life living and working away from York, and only sometimes visit occasionally on days off.
We also pay council tax on the second property to a different council.
Apparently these are the rules because one day I will return.
Surely each case has to be judged separately and new rules should be made to accommodate a particular situation.
This is not the first time I have had such difficulty with the council, but hopefully with plans in place, it should be one of the last.
