CAMPAIGNERS for a street to be named after one of York’s saints will present a petition to the Lord Mayor on Tuesday.
The bid headed by the Knights of St Columba, who are lay members of the Catholic Church, is the latest move to honour St Margaret Clitherow.
She lived in the house now a chapel named after her in Shambles and was martyred on Ouse Bridge where York Civic Trust unveiled a plaque in her memory in 2008.
The order’s Provincial Grand Knight John Smith and Canon Michael Ryan of St Wilfrid’s Church, Duncombe Place, will be at the Mansion House with York member and Grand knight John Rayne-Davis on Tuesday to present the petition in favour of a street bearing her name to the Lord Mayor, Coun Keith Hyman.
