A young lad had his birthday ruined when thieves stole his first ever new bike.
Shane Thornton, of Heworth, York, was given a new royal blue and silver Spectrum bike by his mum and dad for his 11th birthday.
But only a fortnight after his birthday, the bike was taken from the family's back garden, where Shane had carefully stored it for the night.
Mum Dawn, 36, said: "We bought Shane a lovely new bike. He waited a long time for it.
"We gave him it a couple of days before his birthday because he had been so good at school."
She said Shane, who has learning difficulties and behavioural problems, had been behaving really well at school, gaining gold stars for good conduct.
"He had a terrible day at school after it was taken," she said.
Now a friend of Dawn has lent young Shane a replacement bike, but it is not the new model that made his birthday morning on September 16.
Shane said: "My dad came upstairs when I was still in bed. I heard him telling my mum my bike was gone. It made me really sad."
