JUNIOR cricketers from York’s Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Primary School missed out on a place at Drax Cup finals day at Headingley.
Our Lady finished as runners-up to Bedale in the North Yorkshire final at Dunnington in the Drax Cup, the country’s biggest cricket competition for under-9s.
Bedale clinched victory in the six-team competition by beating Our Lady in a thrilling decider after both sides finished with four wins apiece.
Bedale totalled 228 and Our Lady, who last year finished fourth on finals day, made 219 after losing three wickets in the last over.
The four area winners will do battle for the Drax Cup at Headingley on Sunday, July 8, before Yorkshire’s Twenty20 Cup clash with Derbyshire.
