IT HAS been interesting to read about the lack of public consultation about York bus services (The Press, June 9).
At the second public meeting arranged by Hugh Bayley in April, 2011, about this very subject, Coun Dave Merrett (the member now responsible for planning, transport and sustainability) stood up and stated that he thought that meetings such as these were very valuable and that, if his party were to gain control of City of York Council, he would be making sure that they were held regularly.
It is interesting that since that time neither Mr Bayley nor Coun Merrett have organised any similar meetings, despite promises from Mr Bayley’s office that these were being arranged.
The only contact that has been arranged for members of the public was by Bus Users UK.
One wonders if, now his party has gained control of City of York Council, Coun Merrett, like some other members of the Cabinet, sees the public as someone whose views are only important at election times.
