FIRE crews attended a blaze at a North Yorkshire school's science block.
At 9.30am this morning firefighters were called to Queen Ethelburgas Preparatory School at Thorpe Underwood near Boroughbridge.
Crews from York, Acomb and Boroughbridge were pulled in to tackle the blaze, which is believed to have started in a waste bin inside one of the science block rooms.
The fire was extinguished, and crews left at about 11.20am.
Fire investigators were also sent to the school to try and establish the cause of the fire, and will return to the site tomorrow.
UPDATE: 3.15pm
A statement from Queen Ethelburga's School said the classroom would be back in use by tomorrow.
It also said: "Due to thick smoke caused by burning floor material under a small waste paper basket officers called for back-up pumps and breathing apparatus to be used in case the incident escalated.
"Within minutes fire officers had extinguished the small fire and ventilated the affected room. School estate workers are presently cleaning the classroom and will have it fully functioning by tomorrow."
