HUNDREDS of people gathered to enjoy the annual Selby Fun Day yesterday.
The event, which took place at three locations around the town, included shire horse, bird of prey and vintage tractor displays, dance demonstrations, and a fun run organised by the Selby Striders.
Musical entertainment was on hand in the Community Centre from the Bob Crossland Band and the Riverside Stompers, and at the recreation ground from this year’s Battle of the Bands winners, Experiment.
The local four piece, who won the event at Selby Town Hall on June 2, opened the show at the James Street site, ahead of performances from We Could Be Astronauts and Complete Weller, among others.
Karen Mann, clerk of Selby Town Council, said: “Experiement were amazing, Hope And Social and the tribute acts were great too, Keep It Cash especially.
“We think there were about 1,000 people here in total, and there’s been a fantastic reception. There’s a good mix of ages here, from children, to teens to the older generation. A lot of families turned out and the weather stayed fine. Everyone has enjoyed themselves, and the atmosphere is really nice.”
As always, a brass band concert at the bandstand featured Barlby Foottappers, Selby Music Centre and South Milford Brass Band, and town councillors were also around throughout the day.
Karen said: “It’s great to get everyone mixed in with everyone getting along.
“The town council and staff have been working alongside the public, helping the community get together and ensuring they have a good time, and we’ve had a lot of positive feedback from families who have enjoyed the day.”
