EXCITEMENT is running high in York ahead of a visit to the city by the Olympic torch tomorrow.
Yesterday, a special meeting was held by City of York Council and Welcome to Yorkshire ahead the visit, which also gave more details about the route.
Tomorrow, the torch will leave The Deep in Hull, and 117 torchbearers will carry it the 159 miles to York Racecourse, Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We are really proud that these games have strong Yorkshire DNA running through it.”
York council leader James Alexander said: “This really is a chance for York to be able to shine on an international stage.”
