AFTER attending an Acomb ward committee meeting on June 13 about the new bus lane to be constructed between Plantation Drive to Princess Drive, I urge local people to take action now.
The lane is part of the £22 million Park&Ride scheme at Poppleton. The plan is to make this short span of an already busy road into a three-lane highway so that the bus can save 2.5 minutes on a ride into town.
Boroughbridge Road is linked by two schools and many children cross regularly to meet up with friends and have difficulty already, without trying to outwit another lane of traffic.
Someone was nearly killed on Fulford Road a couple of years ago on a similar bus lane; months after they spent money putting it in, they removed it.
Any child’s life is not worth 2.5 minutes on any bus journey and I urge anybody reading this to put their objections by June 22 to mark.reade@york.gov.uk or ben.potter@york.gov.uk
But beware anybody living near Carr Lane to Water End and Holgate Park Drive and Acomb Road, you are next.
