I RECENTLY had the good fortune to win two tickets to Bazaar & Rummage by Sue Townsend, courtesy of The Press twenty4seven feature section.
What a truly brilliant production it was by Rowntree Players. The acting was superb. I especially enjoyed the Hyacinth Bucket-type role of Glenda, played supremely well by Chris Higgins.
The set design was totally magical, evoking memories of similar church hall events that I also attended in the eighties.
The Joseph Rowntree Theatre is a wonderful venue and very atmospheric. I would urge more readers to support its events. Finally, thank you to the lovely director, Caroline Heppell, whose enthusiasm and verve were truly infectious.
A marvellous night was had by all.

• I REALLY enjoyed Caroline Heppell’s production of the Sue Townsend Play Bazaar And Rummage at the Rowntree Theatre.
The play had everyone laughing from the off, but as its story unfolded there were spellbinding moments when the entire audience hushed to discover secrets the characters were revealing. I can only say that this is a work of compassion and humanity superbly staged by Caroline and a group of very talented actors.
Rowntree Theatre is a local treasure and certainly helped the evening feel very special indeed. Well done and thank you to all involved.
Janet McCarron, York.
