THIS time last year the residents of Skelton, Rawcliffe and Clifton Without had a reasonable bus service into the city, partly subsidised by City of York Council.
Then Trans Dev York got involved. This company agreed to replace the services 14 and 22 on a fully commercial basis to enable the council to make cost savings. This is diary of what happened: July 2011, Trans Dev York introduces a timetable which appears unworkable, unless their buses had the power to jump over city centre traffic.
• September 2011, Trans Dev York institutes a reliable timetable, but at, no doubt, extra cost to them.
• April 2012. Trans Dev York cancels the early morning services, without notice. These services were protected by the council previously, for commuter travel.
• June 2012. Trans Dev York announces that this commercial service is being cut further to a basic mornings-only service and no service via Leeman Road.
• June 2012. Trans Dev York announces that from July 28 they are pulling off the route in its entirety (except to cherry-pick school services).
City of York Council is entirely innocent in this, but do they have any redress?
