SIGNIFICANT improvements have been made to York city centre since the Reinvigorate York initiative was launched last year to enhance public spaces, organisers have said.

City of York Council’s cabinet teamed up with Sir Ron Cooke, chair of York Civic Trust and York’s Local Strategic Partnership, on the project.

The council said that improvements had included repaving and the removal of railings, bollards and signs which had created unnecessary and unsightly cluttering in places such as Parliament Street, King’s Square, Colliergate, Duncombe Place and Museum Street.

A council spokeswoman said: “The Reinvigorate Group is now looking at other public spaces in the city which would help to make the areas more attractive to residents and visitors.”
