COUNCILLORS in North Yorkshire are to take a fresh look at sharing services with a neighbouring local authority.
Hambleton District Council’s cabinet has agreed that some of the services it currently shares with Richmondshire District Council will be separated, but others are to be reviewed and many will continue to be jointly operated.
A timeline of how changes may take place has been drawn up, with areas including customer services and business support coming back under the control of the individual councils within the next few weeks.
Others will operate under an agreement which will see one council provide them for the other.
Sections such as waste, environmental health, council tax, community safety and licensing will be looked at in more detail next year.
“There’s been no big fall-out between the two authorities – we are simply going to look at new ways of providing services together for the benefit of both sets of residents,” said Hambleton council leader Neville Huxtable.
“It took more than two years to set up shared services so we cannot dismantle it within five minutes, nor would we want to.”
