THOUSANDS of cycling enthusiasts are expected to descend on York this weekend for the grand finale to National Bike Week.
York Racecourse will host the York Cycle Show with events including mountain bike stunt shows, vintage bike exhibitions, auctions and sales.
Local residents can bring their bikes to be security coded by York Police, as part of Operation Spoke, and there will also be entertainers and a cycle parade through the city from the Minster on Sunday at 9.45am.
Paul Hepworth, chairman of the show committee, said: “The show is one of the biggest national events for cyclists. Since it started in 1945, it has encouraged thousands to pedal for pleasure. We hope that by taking part in our Bike Week event, families will beat the credit crunch plus the health crunch, rediscover how much fun cycling is and will be encouraged to keep cycling the whole year round.”
Admission is £3 for adults, £2 for five to 16-year-olds and under-fives free.
Family group discounts are available. For more information phone show secretary John Taylorson on 07765 070120.
