THERE might still be 36 days left until the London Olympics start – but pupils at one York school have jumped the gun.
Youngsters at Archbishop of York’s Junior School, in Bishopthorpe, gave their day an international theme when they staged their own grand Olympic opening ceremony this week.
The festival saw pupils adopt the different nations which will be taking part in the Games, displaying flags and taking part in traditional songs and dances to mark the individual traditions of the countries.
Visitors were also able to see the school’s Olympic Flag being hoisted aloft and cheered pupils as they carried their own Olympic Torch.
