A CITY-WIDE exhibition of quilts is to be held as part of the York800 celebrations.
The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, which is based at the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York, has organised the event with support from City of York Council and the National Lottery, through Arts Council England. It will run from September 14 to November 16.
York800 marks the 800th anniversary of York receiving its charter as a self-governing city. A range of original and contemporary York-themed quilts will be displayed around the city centre.
Two quilt-makers, Linda Barlow and Alicia Merrett, will both produce exhibits for the project, and Guild president Tina McEwan said: “The exhibition will take the best of contemporary quilting to a wide audience in all sorts of locations across the city and introduce the art of quilting to people who have never seen contemporary textile art.”
