The British Touring Car Champion-ship makes its annual return to the Croft Circuit this weekend with two-time champion Jason Plato seeking home comforts, writes Alex Reid.

The Geordie, with 69 race wins to his name, is a BTCC legend but has suffered a barren spell at his “home” race at the North Yorkshire track, having not won there since 2006.

He is aiming to end that run, though, saying he loves competing at Croft, the nearest venue to his Newcastle home.

“I don’t get much chance to get back to the North East so it’s a rare opportunity to hear and taste the sounds of the good old North,” he said.

The BTCC will be in race action three times on Sunday. Supporting categories provide a further 11 races over the weekend.
