IT’S make-or-break for The Enemy. After the travesty of sophomore record Music For The People, an ego-inflated collection that couldn’t have been further away from its title, the Coventry lads return with reputations on the line.

Are they restored? Partly. The themes are broadly the same – singer Tom Clarke can’t bring himself to step away from terrace life – but The Enemy are striking a more optimistic tone from the council-estate misery they’ve been so fond of peddling. “Saturday will make it ok” this time and, in 1-2-3-4, it’s the “first day of the rest of our lives”.

Makes a change from drunken fights and utter hopelessness. So progress in some ways but, with Clarke’s vocals largely drowned out in a wall of screeching guitars, it’s difficult to pick up on any new subtlety in their lyrics.
