Three years is a long time to take away but Reverend And The Makers are back with their quirkily entitled third album.
The title is same as their Twitter moniker and lead singer Jon McClure says the songs are about “the little situations I see living in Sheffield in 2012. Nothing seems to sum up the present and the times we live in more than the @ symbol”. Gone is the political edge of their first two albums.
Instead, the fake nature of Facebook photos in album highlight Warts n All and an over-bearing boss in Out Of The Shadows are described sardonically by McClure. The album is their most experimental yet. It is synth heavy, without losing their guitar roots.
Numerous floor fillers, in particular rip-roaring opening song Bassline and soon-to-be festival favourite Shine The Light, emphasise the cheerier nature of this record. This is their best album yet. They have mastered the change of direction superbly, producing a record with high tempo, upbeat songs and meaningful lyrics.
