A MAN has been charged and remanded in custody following a stabbing in York.

David Paul Newton, 27, has been charged with wounding with intent after a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen at an address in Cambridge Street on Wednesday evening.

He was remanded in custody at a hearing in York Magistrates' Court this morning and will appear at York Crown Court on June 29.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "A 27-year-old man from Stafford House on Cambridge street, York, has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent. The charge follows an incident which occurred shortly after 10pm on Wednesday 20 June 2012, at an address on Cambridge Street.

“The 25-year-old man arrested in connection with the same incident has been released on police bail.

”The 30-year-old man who was injured remains in York District Hospital in a comfortable condition.”
