Selby Warriors ARLC Under-14s continued their fine form with a 34-20 win at Kippax Welfare – despite losing second-row Frank Sherman in the warm-up after he suffered a broken jaw.

The first half was generally scrappy and error-ridden but the intensity was clear and at one point both teams’ desire to win took over from playing rugby.

Selby led only 18- 16 at half-time, with Kippax replying to Selby’s tries by props Ben Copeland and Henry Levett and second-row Dylon Tonks, all goaled by Brandon Harris.

In the second half, Selby loose-forward Chaz Fothergill took hold of matters and scored two quick-fire tries, Harris converting one.

The Warriors played out their sets to take the game away from the home side before Levett popped up again to score under the posts in fine style, Harris goaling again, prior to a late Kippax response.

George Stoker, in his second outing, did well.

The previous Tuesday, the high-riding Warriors stormed to an 80-14 win at Hoyland Vikings.

Captain Harris scored two first-half tries from stand-off and ended with 12 goals for a points haul of 32.

All 19 lads that travelled contributed to the result, with other tries coming from Fothergill, Tonks, second-row James McKeon and, in a onesided second period, Tonks, with two more, Jonny Black, Jamie Graley, Fothergill, with a second-half hat-trick, Stoker, on his debut, and new front-rower Levett.

Another debutant, Bruce Skelton, also showed up well.

York Acorn U15s slumped to their first defeat of the season, 44-10 at fast-improving North Derbyshire Chargers.

In their last meeting, the Chargers, in their first-ever game in the Yorkshire Junior League, were always second best but they have not lost since and this result could ultimately decide the divisional title.

Acorn trailed 22-4 after a first half playing against the wind, Alex Smith getting their late reply, and, despite having the wind in the second period, a despondent side could not repel the confident hosts.

Acorn at least had the better of the last ten minutes with Smith crossing again.

Heworth U10s’ solid defence kept Sherburn U10s from scoring in what was a fine game of junior rugby. Jensen Brown and Niall Bowlby shared the Villagers’ top tackle award after some big hits.

Charlie Nicholson’s great break and offload saw manof- the-match Max Davison score, with Kian Oliver, the opposition’s choice of top performer, goaling.

Jak Ostergaard also scored and converted, while Bradley Burns had his best game of the season with some solid runs and a great try-saving tackle which earned him the ‘magic moment’ award. New boy Ben Barnard also impressed.

Heworth U10s are seeking new players. Anyone interested can phone Leanne on 07875 074190.

York Acorn U9s enjoyed victory by 14 tries to seven afer a fine display at Whinmoor.

Man-of-the-match Luke Rowell was superb in attack, as was coaches’ player-of-the-match Kieran Carrington.

Heworth U9s put in a much-improved display to beat Stanningley ‘A’ in convincing fashion.

An attacking first half display set the tone, Myles Harrison grabbing an early brace with Callum Rutland, Jack Young and the impressive Leon Mooring also crossing.

In the second half, man-ofthe- match Kane Cavanagh twice powered over and Callum Dunmore and Ellis Hunter added tries. Josh Atkin Stone took the ‘magic moment’ for big hits and was well supported in defence by David Strange and Spencer Harris. Rutland finished the game with another impressive solo effort.
