A MONTH-LONG campaign has been launched to crack down on motorists driving without insurance in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
Drink-driving checks are also being carried out through the initiative, which is being run by North Yorkshire Police and Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Road Safety Partnership.
Similar work on the A19 between January and April showed 2,691 vehicles were being driven without insurance.
Road policing officers will use static and mobile cameras.
Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard said: “Not having your vehicle insured can be a very expensive lesson and is not a victimless crime, as if you are involved in a collision with an uninsured vehicle it may make it difficult to make an insurance claim and often lead to an innocent motorist being out of pocket.”
