ATTENTION all animal lovers – an annual show celebrating the region’s most adorable pets will be staged in York this summer.
Scores of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and those of the less fluffy variety such as reptiles, will take part in the second Thompsons of York Pet Show next month.
The Thompsons Country Store competition, which will be held at Murton Auction Centre on Saturday, July 28, will see judges decide on the best small animal, best small and large dogs, best cat and best exotic animal.
The winners of each of the five categories wins a trophy and top prize of free pet food for an entire year. Two runners-up in each category will receive a rosette.
The family fun day, supported by The Press, will also feature a falconry display, the tailwaggers dog display team and “have a go” events for dogs.
There will also be stalls, pet feeding advice and Sam’s Safari will be on site with reptiles and exotic animals that visitors will get a chance to hold.
Last year’s inaugural event saw hundreds of people enjoy the show and Thompsons are hoping even more will visit the store this time around.
Andrew Richardson, managing director of Thompsons Animal Feeds, said: “It is a family event and anyone who has a pet and wants something to do should come down and have a bit of fun – and whatever the weather, it will all be under cover.
“It is a chance to meet other people and fellow pet-owners, get a bit of advice and just to have a day out.
“Thompsons have been a family company since 1920 and are closely linked to York, and we make big animal feeds but also stock a large range of pet food.
“We wanted to return something back to York and have a fun family day. Last year was our first event and it was a resounding success, so we are looking forward to seeing what this year will bring.”
Entry forms are available in store, and can also be submitted online.
