TRANSPORT bosses in York have applied to introduce a 20mph speed limit on a number of streets.
City of York Council plans to bring in the reduced speeds in the South Bank area as the first stage of a move to implement the 20mph rule on all residential streets in York. It has now made a formal traffic order for this to happen.
If it is brought into force, routes covered by the new limit will include parts of Bishopthorpe Road, Terry Avenue, Dale Street and Bishopgate Street, as well as the whole of Darnborough Street, Lower Darnborough Street, Nunnery Lane, Prices Lane, Price Street, Cherry Street, Charlton Street, Clement Street, Clementhorpe, Moss Street, Norfolk Street, Scarcroft Road and Vine Street.
The council is also intending to introduce 20mph limits on sections of Knavesmire Road and Racecourse Road.
All the routes are currently 30mph zones and the deadline for comments or objections to be lodged with the council is July 13.
If the scheme goes ahead, the new limits are expected to come into force on 50 streets in late summer.
