THE £19 million funding deficit crisis facing the NHS in our region is expected to dominate the monthly public meeting of PCT governors in York this morning.

NHS North Yorkshire and York PCT admitted last week that it faced the huge shortfall and said there was no chance of a bail out from Yorkshire and the Humber Strategic Health Authority, as has happened in previous years.

In the papers for today’s meeting, which takes place in the Priory Street centre at 10am, trust bosses are warned that “without significant changes to patterns of expenditure” the PCT risks running out of money this year.

NHS North Yorkshire and York PCT is responsible for spending the millions of Government cash given to our region each year.

If the trust runs out of money it would be unable to pay organisations, such as York Hospital, to provide care.

Governors at today's meeting are expected to discuss ways of clawing back the shortfall and ensure the predicted £19million deficit is not breached.
