YORK enjoyed a win double over Wetherby Castlegarth in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League at Clifton Park.
In division two, York 2 managed to squeeze nine points from 56 games against Castlegarth 1, including four 7-5 rubbers and two 6-6 scorelines. James Hirst and Howard Pallister attained the perfect score of three points from only 21 games. It was more one-sided when the clubs met in division five, with York 3 running out 10½-1½ winners. Jack Bass and James Pilmoor won three points for a return of 28 games. The victories took both York sides to third in their respective divisions.
Stamford Bridge enjoyed a healthy 10-2 haul at Boston Spa in the only other division two game played.
There were no division one matches due to players figuring in the York Municipal Tennis Tournament.
A balanced side helped Copmanthorpe win a big showdown at home to Rowntree Park 2 in division three.
All three Cop pairs won points, with Dave Atkinson and Rob Abbott bagging 2½ from only 20 games and the team bonus went to Cop 59-49.
Park’s four points from the match saw them overhaul leaders Sherburn. Although Sutton won five rubbers, it was visitors Wilberfoss who took the points 7-5 after a final round 12-0 win by Matt and Dan Poole. Boston Spa 2 got their first win after a visit to bottom team Rufforth.
Wigginton 2 extend their lead at the top of division four after hosts Fulford 2 included an ineligible player. Rob Williams and Jonny Kay were the difference with three points from 25 games won as second-placed Bishopthorpe pipped third-placed Starbeck 2 56-52.
Strensall narrowly missed their first team bonus despite winning 5½ rubbers at home to Copmanthorpe 2 and having two pairs unbeaten. Cop pinched the bonus 55-53 thanks to a final round 11-1 win by Dave Dearing and Lindsay McLeod.
Bubwith 2’s comprehensive win at home to Sutton-on-Derwent 2 lifted them off the bottom of division five.
There was an unbeaten return of 2½ points from 21 games by Bram Tunbridge and Jim Tennant.
Poppleton 3 are pushing ahead at the top of division six after captain Tony Hart and Stephen Fenton won three points from 27 games in an 8-4 (63-45) success at home to Bishopthorpe 2.
