THE Government proposes to reduce the armed forces by 20 per cent. Just think if this were to happen to the NHS, the fire service and other organisations: there would be uproar and striking, but the armed forces cannot strike.
Just think about the consequences of 20 per cent all at once leaving and going into civvie street. Single people trying to get a job, which are few and far between; and the impact on married personnel with children is something the Government has not considered.
They will have to find somewhere to live from the outset and will have to go on the housing list wherever they want to live. Besides the junior ranks, what about the top brass? We have generals, admirals and lots of civil servants who are not needed: they should be cut down to size first if savings have to be made.
