I AM not one to moan nor do I have any issues with the proliferation of let properties, I do however feel there are whole areas of York being slowly taken over and crammed with as many people as possible to achieve as great a return as possible for the landlords.
Again no real issue with this, but I would at least like to see the gardens of these previously neatly kept properties (which undoubtedly were someone’s pride and joy not many years ago) being afforded the minimum degree of attention to prevent them from becoming overgrown or hay meadows.
Take Green Dykes Lane as an example. Nearly every other house has now been turned into student lets which is clear from simply looking at the state of the many overgrown gardens (getting worse every year).
It is really too bad that some landlords cannot afford from their multi-occupancy rents or be bothered to have the decency/respect for their neighbours to at least keep some kind of control over the grounds.
Is it too much to ask that the letting agents, occupiers or owners take responsibility for the minimum up keep of these gardens?
