WITH regard to last Friday’s edition of The Press – “Funeral boss quits in cash mix-up” – I would like to say that bereaved families put their trust in funeral directors and pay enough fees to ensure the day runs smoothly, taking the pressure off families at such a difficult and vulnerable time.
I understand that this error of not sending the charity collection was a one-off and apologies have been given, but it does make me wonder.
In 2007 a collection was made at my dad’s funeral for a local charity and I guess that more than £300 was raised but I never had a receipt for this money or a thank-you letter from the charity. I regret not investigating further, but I had other things on my mind.
A funeral collection not only benefits a charity but is also a loving gesture from family and friends in memory of the deceased. It gives a little comfort knowing that someone will at least benefit from their death. I now write cheques only for collections.
