YORK and North Yorkshire Primary Care Trust says it has a financial crisis that will impact on the provision of healthcare services (The Press, June 20).
Yet it remains intent on demolishing the former nurses’ accommodation at Wigginton Road which could be sold or leased to provide an income. We are told the site is to be used for clinical purposes but if the trust is facing a £19 million debt, exactly what clinical facilities are they proposing for that site and how are they going to fund them? There is an opportunity here to provide much-needed housing while at the same time generating funds for a cash-strapped NHS Trust. Is this going to be another lost opportunity? Can no one in authority run an organisation efficiently on a sound financial basis?
