A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court, accused of armed robbery at a shop in York.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with robbing Tayyba Khalid of cigarettes and cash at Goldmine store on Haxby Road, York, on May 13, and possessing a gas powered hand gun at the time of the robbery.
Youth justices committed him to the crown court where he will appear next month. He did not enter a plea and he was remanded into secure local authority accommodation.
Magistrates had previously decided his alleged crimes were “grave and serious” and therefore should not be tried by the youth court where the maximum sentence is a two-year detention and training order.
