PEOPLE in York are being offered free lung tests by students and staff at York St John University.
Today is World Spirometry Day, which promotes the assessment of lungs through the measurement of breath, so the university is holding the tests to alert anyone to potential lung problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and tuberculosis.
Paul Humphrey, a lecturer in physiotherapy, said: “Our aim is to raise awareness of spirometry testing and to encourage York residents to get checked. Early diagnosis can have a huge impact on a patient’s life as it enables them to manage their condition themselves and get the treatment they need.”
To find out more about the event visit yorksj.ac.uk/wsd2012. Drop- in sessions will be held at the university from 8am to 6pm today and 1pm and 4pm on Friday.
